However, that all changed towards the end of the century when Mitsubishi started building some cool performance cars and also got into the rallying scene, with the brand building some of the most iconic rally cars and sports cars – the 3000GT being easily one of their best. With no head liner, in the southern california sun, the inside of the top gets hot enough that you cant touch it with your bare hand. For much of the 20th century, Mitsubishi lived in the shadows of top Japanese car manufacturers like Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda. If you get the Carbon top the clear coat is not UV protective so the carbon will fade and change color in about a week of being in the sun. The VIS weathestripping does not fully seal. You need to use the window weather stripped with metal backing from the soft top for a proper seal. It's also better to run the OEM mounts because they are made to reduce vibration. I have had to fill the area behind the mount holes with silicone to reduce the vibration and help support the inserts. The bolts can not be tightened once the inserts are lose. The vibration from the top will crack the glue and separate the inserts from the fiberglass. The other issue with the VIS top is the screw inserts for the mounts are simply glued into the fiberglass. In the past I either had to cut own thicker better quality carbonate or install the factory glass. Its can also leak water around and in through the screw holes. It will also get hazy if you let it sit in the sun. The rear window they sell with it is junk. I have installed and sold several of the VIS tops. with that said, I do not think it is the end all be all solution, for some people the oem top is a better solution I have zero regrets of buying the VIS, its all in the install. My car is not a full blown track car, I am building it as a trackable street car, with the goal of 2195lbs or less k swapped with ac and a roll bar. I did not buy the VIS to save money, I bought it to save weight and look better. fill that in with silicone, I also filled in the gap on the inside between the inner and outer shell. once you cut them off you will be able to see there is a channel that runs between the inner skeleton and outer shell of the top. cut them off and sand them down so that they sit lower than the mounting surface. The rear hooks are just fiberglass and should not be used with oem rear hardware. Some precautions were taken during the install to eliminate noise. I have greatly reduced noise inside the cabin. I have ZERO squeaks, rattles or leaks or any type of noise, my top has no visible gap between it and the body. I did not use any of the weather stripping that comes with the top, I reused my soft top side windows weather strip and purchased $25 worth of weather stripping from home depot. I did not use the lexan that came with it because I wanted tinted lexan, the lexan that came with it was not perfectly cut and only 2mm thick, the replacement was 1/8" (3mm). Aftermarket wet carbon parts usually have failing clear within a year if left in the sun. It is lighter than the carbon fiber version because like almost all carbon fiber body parts, its fiberglass with one sheet of carbon over it. it weights 18lbs with window and brackets and weather strip. I shared my install of the VIS fiberglass top on the FB group.
